Training Overview
The STAT curriculum is designed to help you understand Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) and provide ways to mitigate its effects through the use of self-care techniques and a variety of helpful resources. By taking this course, you will gain a basic understanding of STS and learn to differentiate between trauma and stress. You will learn the common signs and risk factors associated with STS, as well as assess your personal level of STS and how it may be affecting various domains of your life.
The curriculum features teacher testimonials and student/teacher vignettes that discuss and depict examples of STS. Some of this material may bring up difficult feelings or memories for you. This is completely understandable. As you move through the program, we encourage you to monitor your emotions and thoughts. If you need to take a break and return to the material at a later time, do so. If you feel you need to consult with someone, click the I Need Help! button located on the navigation bar at the top of the course dashboard. We also encourage you to jump ahead to Module 5, which highlights strategies you can use if you are experiencing distress.
